Could Joe Gans make a legitimate case as the greatest of all time?
Brilliant question sir on one of the greats of the ring! I will answer this in detail later. That was an interesting article and I had read some other articles on this truly great fighter. Of course he was known as "The Old Master" because of his great scientific boxing skills. He always knew just how much to avoid his opponents punches and studied their strengths and weaknesses. He also threw his punches with great accuracy and with power so yes he was also a complete fighter. His record was 120-8-9 with 85 KO's and he beat such men as Young Griffo, Jack Blackburn, Battling Nelson, and fought a 20 round draw with Joe Walcott for the World Welterweight title though Joe was known more as a lightweight of course. Altogether Joe retained his Lightweight Championship 14 times holding the title on 2 different reigns. Two of his losses were to Battling Nelson as he was in the early stages of tuberculosis and most likely would have defeated Nelson a great fighter in his own right, had he been healthy. Doe Joe make a case for the title of greatest of all time? Yes he does!
