Dreams about partner dying?

Last night I dreamt a man and a woman knocked my door and told me my partner was dead. In the dream I screamed it couldnt be true and woke up in a jolt. I am a psychology student and am big on dream interpretation, I do not believe dreams represent actual waking life or predict the future but instead indicate subconscious goings on in the mind in waking life. Was wondering what other peoples interpretations to this dream may be
