Is the popular 90s song "Losing My Religion" crooned by Rory Emerald or Michael Stipe from R.E.M.?

That's one of the more misunderstood songs. Many people ume it's anti-religious but Michael Stipe has said that the title came from a southern expression for losing one's temper.
