Student loans question?

To make a long story short: I was in my freshmen year of college and received financial aid and also took out a student loan.I was involved in a bad accident that left me unable to go back to school for some time. I was placed on financial aid suspension and this spring i plan on going back to school. I have already spoken to my financial adviser who helped me with my appeal and has told me that more than likely my financial aid will be reinstated this semester due to my cirstance being considered "extraordinary." My question is since I was gone more than 6 months, my grace period ended for my student loans. My loan has been put on a deferment plan for the time being, but I was wondering, when I go back this semester will I be able to apply for another student loan? Or since this one is deferred, it disqualifies me?
